Women in Philanthropy 2012 Luncheon
Held on November 15th, the 2012 Women in Philanthropy luncheon was attended by over 225 guests and featured Lakeland Regional’s own president and CEO as the keynote speaker. Elaine Thompson, PhD, FACHE, shared what drives her to make bold choices in the name of bringing excellent healthcare to our community. She spoke of great women who have gone before us and challenged attendees to step out of their comfort zones to ignite change and improve the lives of others.
The 2012 Women in Philanthropy grant recipients were recognized and received grants totaling $74,999.65. Grants funded equipment and refurbishment of several existing spaces at LRMC. These grants are used to improve the care that women and children receive at Lakeland Regional Health Systems. Over the last six years, Women in Philanthropy has funded $334,461 in grants.
The 2012 Young Philanthropist of the Year was awarded to Kasey Miller, who donated six full bags of baby items to the mother/baby unit at LRMC for low income women. For her seventh birthday in January 2012, Kasey asked for baby items instead of the ususal presents for herself because “I like to help people a lot,” and “Because people need things and I’ve got a lot of things.” The Young Philanthropist of the Year award began in 2011 as a way to reinforce Women in Philanthropy’s mission of setting the art of philanthropy for the next generation of women.
